The Prophetic Counsel on Youth Chastity in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim
Abstract
This study examines the concepts of youth chastity and modesty in the light of Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. The primary objective of the research is to analyze the prophetic testaments and guidance of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), which play a foundational role in the moral rectification of youth, the preservation of chastity, and the development of a healthy society. This paper provides an academic discussion on the lexical and terminological definitions of chastity (Iffah), its significance from the Islamic perspective, and prophetic counsels tailored for the youth. These counsels encompass lowering the gaze, guarding the tongue and eyes, the principles of modesty (Haya) and hijab, the prohibition of adultery (Zina), and the encouragement of marriage (Nikah). Furthermore, the roles of worship, piety (Taqwa), righteous companionship, and a wholesome social environment in preserving chastity are thoroughly analyzed. Adopting a descriptive-analytical method, this study utilizes authoritative Hadith collections, exegeses (Tafsir), and jurisprudential (Fiqh) sources. The findings indicate that the prophetic testaments offer a comprehensive and practical guide for the moral upbringing of the younger generation. Implementing these teachings not only rectifies the individual but also safeguards society from moral corruption.
